Escape from Cyborg story review

Escape from Cyborg story review

This story was not as grand or emotional as Aphelion, but weirdly enough, I enjoyed it a lot more. It felt like an adventure, a side quest to wind down from the previous mission. I also feel like it put a lot more focus on Mechty than Aphelion, which is when Mechty was released.

The story starts with Vector being tasked by Klukai to oversee Mechty's training while she's away. However, thanks to Harpsy's modifications, the training program locks both Mechty and Vector in a game world. To get out, they need to defeat an AI named Koshmar that wants to absorb their memories and acquire a physical body.

Sounds simple enough, and the story did feel a bit too short, but it wasn't rushed. The events played out nicely and we got a good conclusion.

I need to mention that I know almost nothing about the story of the previous Girls' Frontline game. Not long ago, I looked up the origin of H.I.D.E. 404, but I had no idea Combat Team B even existed, so I was very surprised when I saw its members. Vector fits in nicely, but everyone else creates an impression that team B is composed of outcasts and troublemakers. I actually like that. It might be my favorite team in the game right now, and I can't wait to get the rest of the members as playable characters.

Koshmar is a very intriguing enemy. Even though she was defeated, I'm wondering if we will see her or a copy of her in the future. I think it would be cool to have her as this virtual, almost mystical, everlasting threat (like Schulz in Punishing: Gray Raven). I also want to know who created her and why. We never really got to the bottom of it. Unfortunately, the fact that she lost the memories she had acquired from Mechty and Vector probably means that even if Koshmar comes back, she won't have this chimera aspect of her. However, it also means that they can play around with other character combinations, which might be even more interesting. Either way, I sense that it's not the end of this creepy being.

Koshmar boss introduction

One thing that surprised me was Mechty's sacrifice at the end. Sure, it was a game, and she knew she would respawn, but still, such heroic action isn't very Mechty-like. I was actually expecting that to happen at some point during the Aphelion story, but it never did. That is why I say that Mechty got a lot more focus in this story.

As for Vector, she is very different from what I expected after watching her trailer. In a good way. I thought she would be a mean, badass, overconfident character, but she's almost the opposite. How did she even end up being the team leader? I was originally planning to get her only because of the design, which is one of the best in the game, so now I'm happy that her personality is also quite appealing.

A very entertaining and self-contained story with a good amount of comedic moments. One of my favorites so far. I hope they will add an option to replay these event quests in the future so that new players could experience them as well.
