Dream till the Timeless End story review

A slightly underwhelming story tying up some loose ends from the previous chapter and giving us interesting details about the connection between Selena and Ishmael.

Dream till the Timeless End story review

I have a confession to make. I am not fully caught up with the PGR story. I started playing the game long after it was released globally, and I jumped right into the latest chapters. At the end of each update when there is not much else to do, I go through the old chapters, but the amount of story we have been getting this year thanks to the integration process has slowed me significantly. That means I have no idea how Selena got to the point where she is in Dream till the Timeless End.

There is not much to talk about in this chapter. The story is relatively short and simple. The theme yet again is related to time travel. We are introduced to a construct named Enora Lueya who has the ability to travel through time, and she is trying to change the course of the history by preventing the New Earth Codex from being signed.

To stop her, Selena is using her abilities to trap Lueya in some kind of time prison — an isolated segment of time that is meant to disappear and destroy both her and Lueya in the process. There is a serious side effect, however. Everyone in the present forgets her, but thanks to his connection with Selena, the commandant manages to reunite with her and eventually figures out a way to bring her back.

Despite being a very chill and simple story, there are still a few things worth talking about. The first one is Enora Lueya herself. Based on her conversation with Ishmael, she comes from yet another world that has been destroyed by the Punishing virus or an equivalent of it. She confidently states that she will break out of the time prison, so I expect to see her again in the future.

The second one is the reveal of the sacrifice Ishmael had to make to help the commandant reverse the time and prevent the hetero tower from appearing too soon. I speculated in my previous article that the sacrifice was being bound to the commandant's world, but I was wrong. It appears to be much simpler than that. She just gave up a portion of her power. However, that hasn't made her significantly less capable, considering that she can still traverse time and space and is less susceptible to the timeline changes.

Ishmael giving up a portion of her power brings us to the most interesting part of this story — her relationship with Selena. Like I mentioned in the beginning, I don't know the full story of Selena. I'm still doing the Echo Aria chapter. But she and Ishmael clearly have history. She even addresses Ishmael as “my lady” at one point. During their conversation, Ishmael concludes that the power she gave up was absorbed by Selena, which explains how she was able to go after Lueya through time and create the time prison. What does that make Selena? How much does she know about Ishmael and the higher-dimensional beings toying with their worlds? Now I'm more excited than ever to catch up with the previous chapters that I've missed and learn more about her.

Selena seems to be a well-loved character in the PGR community, so I'm a bit surprised that this chapter wasn't very exciting. Despite that, it answered a couple of questions I had and made me more motivated to do the previous story.
